Catalogue of Alien Genitalia, 2022

Genitalia are frequently the locus of the intense scrutiny our gendered bodies are subjected to in our current political context. As an artist, I seek to confound traditional constructions of gender and anatomy. I am particularly animated by the possibilities for play in the hinterlands beyond the familiar categories we are organized into from birth. This exploration beyond the binary; beyond positive and negative spaces; beyond penetrator and penetrated; invites the application of the imaginative grammar of science-fiction. My submission will comprise thirty 3D sculptures of speculative alien genital anatomy. The sculptures will incorporate modeling, silicone and wax mold-making, and mixed-media, and draw from the tradition of creature design in cinema and toy-making. I believe that the technical challenge of fabricating thirty distinct sculptures will afford me the opportunity to develop a personal, painterly expression of queer physiology.
